Salesforce consultant rates in Australia: what you should expect to pay
Published 5 May 2026
Salesforce rates in Australia are opaque, and the opacity is not an accident. Every provider benefits from you not quite knowing what the market charges. So here is the honest lay of the land, based on what we see across the market. Treat the figures as indicative brackets rather than quotes, because seniority, industry and urgency move all of them.
The market in brackets
Independent contractors typically sit somewhere in the range of 800 to 1,300 dollars a day for admins and mid-level consultants, with senior developers and solution architects commanding more. You get the sharpest rate in the market and take on all the management yourself: screening, contracts, continuity risk and knowledge capture are your problem.
Mid-tier consultancies generally range from roughly 1,200 to 1,700 dollars a day depending on role and seniority. You are paying for screening, delivery management, and someone to call when things wobble.
The large systems integrators charge well beyond that, frequently north of 2,000 dollars a day for senior roles. Some programmes genuinely need what they offer. Many buy that assurance and receive a rotating cast of juniors under a senior name that appeared only in the proposal.
Offshore and blended models change the arithmetic again, with blended teams often landing 30 to 50 percent below an equivalent all-onshore team while keeping Australian delivery leadership on the account.
Why the same role varies by 500 dollars a day
Certifications matter less than scar tissue. A consultant who has consolidated two orgs after an acquisition, untangled a permissions model grown feral over five years, or held an integration together during a go-live weekend is worth a premium over one with the same certification list and none of the bruises. When a rate looks surprisingly low, the missing ingredient is usually production experience.
Industry context moves rates too. Consultants who know APRA-regulated environments, government procurement or health data handling carry a premium in those sectors because they arrive knowing what will and will not survive review.
How to buy well
Match seniority to the actual work. Paying architect rates for user administration burns budget; paying admin rates for org design burns the platform. A healthy engagement usually mixes a small amount of senior time across a larger base of mid-level delivery.
Interrogate the rate card structure, not just the number. Ask what happens when a consultant leaves mid-engagement, whether the person in the proposal is the person doing the work, and what notice applies if you need to scale down. The answers reveal more than the rate does.
And be sceptical of both ends of the range. The cheapest rate in a shortlist usually externalises a cost you will pay later, and the most expensive one is often paying for a brand rather than the person in the seat.
Waverton provides Salesforce consultants across all four of our engagement models, from a single embedded admin to a fully managed Salesforce function, priced transparently against the work rather than the market's confusion.
